Having A Self Day – Final Chapter

Another thing the Self does is that it puts off to another day what it can do today. If you find yourself not doing something and putting it off, it is definitely the Self. The Higher Self does what is necessary immediately; the Self cannot be bothered. As I have said prior to this, the Self is lazy and does not enjoy chores. The higher one goes in vibration, the harder it is to deal with the Self when one is tired and exhausted. This is why once a week I have a Self day.

I work very hard in the job I do. Sometimes I do not give myself the credit I should for the work I do, for to me it is my passion. It has never been work, but even passion needs a day off. My Self does not like my passion, because I love working and helping people. The Self would rather watch TV and have the pleasures of life. So one day a week, I get up and check my email (of which there are always very many). I deal with them and some I print out and leave for another day. Then I take the day off. I may go to the casino or to the shops, Alan and I might take a drive and go somewhere for dinner, but my Self gets pampered the whole day. At the end of the day it is happy and content and leaves me alone for the rest of the week. It is a perfect arrangement and it does not even realize I have outwitted it, it is so naive!

Try having a Self day yourself, just one day a week. It can be any day, not necessarily a weekend. Just watch how things change for you once you do. I would love to hear your stories too if you would like to write me (info@MargaretMcElroy.com). One can conquer the Self. It just takes a little practice and know-how.

So what of the Higher Self? What can we do for that energy? Well, to be honest, nothing. You see the Higher Self does not waste energy like the Self does. It hardly talks to us. If it wants us to do something or go somewhere or meet someone it will silently maneuver itself there. It will put something in front of us to show us what it needs us to do. It will have a friend talk about something we know we should do, and it reiterates what we knew but did not follow through on. If we can still the Self long enough, we can then hear what the Higher Self wants us to do.

We hear people say; “Listen to the still small voice within.” The Higher Self is small. It does not want attention; it is beyond that. It only wants to lead and guide you to fulfill your destiny or life path. It knows what you need to do to fulfill your life plan and is constantly with your Guardian spirit to assist you to fulfill that path. If it does speak it is loving and kind. It has no fear and generates no fear. It only wants you to be aware of what is ahead.

I was moving house once, and a voice said to me quite clearly; “Do not take on anything else but the mortgage because there is going to be a recession.” I listened, but my ex husband would not. And yes, there was a recession, but we had also leased a car on top of our mortgage just after this message. My husband signed for it alone without my permission or signature. I was powerless to do anything. That was my Higher Self, and I wished I had listened to it. I would not have gone through a very difficult time had I done so.

It is not easy understanding the Self; it is so crafty. However, once one does understand what the Self is and how it operates, life is a whole lot easier. I have said again in other blogs that you never lose the Self part of you. It is connected to the physical and as such will only die when the body dies. In every one of us is a gene which, when we are born, triggers the Self. It is activated when we are born and sometimes will even begin working full time when we are a child.

My Self did it with me; it brought in all the fear from the past lives I had. This genetic part of us has learned to infiltrate our Higher Self and gain access to the records of our past lives with all of the fear and emotional trauma that it contains. I am so grateful to my teacher, Maitreya, for opening the door to understanding the Self. I had so much fear, and the Self had total control of me until I faced the fear. Once I did, it had no more control.

Even though I understand my Self and what it does to me, I still have to keep alert. If I do not, the Self comes in furtively and, before I know it, creates problems for me again. Of course I no longer give it any energy, so those problems are few and far between these days – except when I am tired and, as I stated earlier, I then do not have the energy to fight it. I have also come to understand how we use energy and how we misuse it (see my book, The Energy of Life), and that has helped me enormously as well in controlling the Self.

The Self knows just how to keep you enslaved. It is ruthless, has no rules, and is intent on keeping itself in the comfort zone as much as it can. As I have said before in my blog, it hates change. Just mention change and watch your Self come out fighting. How can one deal with that? I tell my students, “If you plan on moving, then visit the place a few times so the Self feels a little more secure of where it is going; it fears the unknown.” It is the same if you plan to change your job. Talk to your Self (yes, talk to it as if it were a child). Tell it all about the new job and what positive things it can expect.

It is very interesting that the Self can be so negative, yet it hates the negative in anything it does or experiences. However it will bring up all the negative things it can to keep you in the comfort zone. Oh, it is so crafty!

Each week I have a Self day. The personal trainer allows this also. Give your Self a day of indulgence – all the things it likes, a lazy day, and one perhaps where you stay in your pajamas all day. The Self loves staying in pajamas all day! It also hates getting out of bed, so let it sleep in as long as it wants. It will soon rouse you for food when it gets hungry. At the end of the day the Self will be bored, fed up, and tired despite doing nothing all day long. However, it will be so sated with what it has had that it won’t want it for at least another week. What you have done will keep it quiet and at peace for a while. Oh, the joy of that!

I was concerned about what I was doing and asked Maitreya had I done the correct thing. He said yes, but to totally deny the Self was the worst thing I could do. When it did require chocolate, it would get a small portion and nothing more. This placated the Self, even more if I told it that, if it behaved itself, it would get more.

I have heard many people calling the Self their “inner child”, and believe me it was like talking to a child and disciplining it. The taming of my Self was not easy but as I said, understanding the Self and not denying it was one of the most significant things I think I have ever done. I have not actually conquered the Self because, when I am tired and exhausted, out if comes. “Ah, so you are worn out and tired are you? Time to play some games!” it says. Oh boy I hate those days because I have no energy to fight back with, and it brings out all the big guns. Thankfully I have no fear anymore so it cannot frighten me with that. It tries, but I just say affirmations to counteract what it is trying to say and do to me.

Recently it tried to tell me a certain future event in my life would not happen. I affirmed over and over that it would happen. The Self got fed up in the end and gave up. Where it gets its energy from I do not know, but it reminds me of the EverReady Bunny in the battery ads here in the USA and Australia; it never gives up. Giving it a Self day, no matter what your Self likes, can help enormously. However there is one thing I do warn against: that is, the Self loves alcohol. If you are an alcoholic or drink a lot, then do not feed your Self with alcohol. It will keep you a virtual prisoner if you do that.
