It will soon be Christmas. YES!! We have 5 months before it is upon us. I recently started making my Christmas cards. I love making my own occasion cards and, more than anything, my Christmas cards. People think I am crazy doing this in July, but last year, because of a state of events, I was not able to do it, and I missed it. There is something about receiving a hand-made card I believe. Alan’s son loves receiving the cards I make for him, and even more so, his Christmas card.
I love to watch people at Christmas racing around looking for presents, spending on their plastic when, if they thought about it, they could make something for everyone. I used to be like them until I came to the USA and discovered the large craft stores. To begin with I made things: cards, posters, etc., because I could not work here and did not have a green card, so I spent my days – while Alan worked – creating craft items and discovering to my amazement a talent I did not even know I had. People used to tell me that I am so creative but I could not see it. I ventured from the early days of just making cards and posters to making paintings and finally one Christmas decided to make gift baskets for our staff. I had never done anything like it before, but I bought the baskets, ribbon, cellophane and bows, went to specialty stores, and filled the baskets with all sorts of goodies and treats many of the staff would never buy for themselves: coffees, chocolate, herbal and non-herbal teas, cookies, cakes, pickles, cheeses, pates, and many other wonderful things. I just loved doing it and, as I was doing it in August, I had the time to do it. I bought no fresh produce – everything including the cheeses and pates were in tins – but it was such a joy cramming everything into the baskets.
